DPM Administrator Console Changes

Applies To: System Center Data Protection Manager 2007

In DPM 2006, members of both the administrators group and the backup operations group could open DPM Administrator Console. In DPM 2007, only members of the administrators group can open DPM Administrator Console.

DPM Administrator Console uses the same layout and task areas as it did in DPM 2006. Changes within the console are as follows:

  • The Options dialog box, previously available in the console Action menu only, is now added to the Actions pane in every task area.

  • Monitoring task area:

    • Alerts tab: Added an option to inactivate an alert.

    • Jobs tab: Added the ability to filter jobs based on date and time, job type, data source, protection group or protected computer name, library, and data transferred. Three default filters are included. Administrators can create and save custom filters.

  • Protection task area:

    • Combined the options for renaming a protection group, adding a protection group member, and changing protection group options into a Modify protection group option.

    • Added options for viewing and managing tapes that are associated with a protection group.

    • Added an option for managing the tape catalog retention period.

    • Added options to stop the protection of a protection group or protection group member.

    • Added options to create a recovery point on disk and tape.

    • Moved the synchronize option to the Create recovery point - disk dialog box.

    • Replaced the Modify protection options action with the Optimize performance option, which opens a dialog box for configuring on-the-wire compression, consistency check schedules, and express full backup schedules.

  • Recovery task area:

    • The Create shadow copy now action has been removed. (Now you use the Create recovery point action in the Protection task area.)

    • Search options include filters by data type.

    • The Browse interface has been redesigned to add calendar-based browsing and to allow filtering, including by protected computer.

  • Reporting task area:

  • Management task area:

    • Agents tab: Added an option to disable the protection agent, which you can use to temporarily discontinue communication between the DPM server and a protected computer.

    • Agents tab: Added an option to enable network bandwidth usage throttling for a protected computer, and changed the Update agent licenses action to Update DPM licenses.

    • Libraries tab: Added this tab to provide an interface for administering and managing tape libraries and stand-alone tape drives.
