Configure the Planning Server Application Pool and Service Identity Account

Updated: 2009-04-09

Before installing any required PerformancePoint Planning software, you must create or select a Windows domain account to act as the application pool and service identity (SI) account for Planning Server.

Note

Monitoring Server also requires an application pool identity account. This Monitoring Server account can be a separate account since the Planning and Monitoring servers run in separate application pools.

The Planning Server account should not have administrative permissions on any computer running Planning Server.

During Planning Server setup, you must enter the Planning Server Application Pool Identity and Service Identity account. All Planning Server processes and calls run under this account.

Permissions for the Planning Server account are set up as follows:

  • On the SQL Server computers that contain relational databases, SQL Server permissions for the Planning Server application pool identity and SI account are configured automatically during installation.

    Note

For a distributed Planning Server installation, the Planning Server application pool identity and SI account may also need dbcreator privileges when an application is created using the Planning Administration Console and Auto-Create functionality. See Prepare SQL Server to host an application database section for complete details.

  • On SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services servers, permissions for the Planning Server application pool identity and SI account are configured automatically during installation for stand-alone setup. If Analysis Services is installed on a separate computer from the SQL Server computer, there is one manual step required to set up the permissions on the Analysis Services computer. See Prepare Analysis Services Server to host analysis databases for details.

  • On computers that run Planning Web Service, permissions for the Planning Server application pool identity and SI account are configured automatically during installation. The IIS application pool PPSPlanningWebServicesAppPool is created during installation.

  • On computers that run the Planning Process Service, permissions for the Planning Server SI account are configured automatically during installation. The Microsoft PerformancePoint Service, a Windows service, is configured to run under the SI account identity.

  • The IIS application pool PPSPlanningAdminConsoleAppPool is created during installation and uses the same account.
