Enabling Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security for Planning Server

Updated: 2009-04-09

We recommend using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol for HTTP communication with Internet Information Services (IIS).

Each site hosted in IIS must have an SSL certificate installed to enable this security measure.

For more information on SSL and how to set up a certificate server or use an existing certificate server with Planning Server, see the article Setting up SSL on Your Server (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=100380&clcid=0x409).

Note

To avoid denial-of-service attacks on Planning Server, use the MaxRequestLength setting in Internet Information Services (IIS). This setting limits the amount of data to try to prevent the servers from being maliciously overwhelmed.

Note

Additional ways to use IIS to avoid a denial-of-service attack include leaving the default value of 120 for the timeout setting and using the MaxSesionPerUser setting. SQL Server also has timeout settings you can use. For more information, see your IIS documentation and SQL Server Books Online.
