To configure a backup route for Web requests

  1. In the console tree of ISA Server Management, click Networks.

  2. In the details pane, select the Web Chaining tab, and then select the applicable Web chaining rule.

  3. On the Tasks tab, click Edit Selected Rule.

  4. On the Action tab, click Redirecting them to a specified upstream server, and then click Settings.

  5. In Server, type the name of the upstream server, and then click OK.

  6. In Backup route, select Upstream proxy server, and then click Settings.

  7. In Server, type the name of the upstream server and, then click OK.

  8. (Optional) Select Use automatic dial-up entry for the backup route if ISA Server dials out for backup connections.

  9. Click Settings.

  10. In Server, type the name of the ISA Server computer.

  11. In Port, type the port number of the upstream server. Typically, this is port 8080.

  12. In SSL Port, type the SSL port number of the upstream server. Typically, this is port 8443.

  13. (Optional) If the upstream server should supply configuration information, click Automatically poll upstream server for the configuration and type the URL of the server.

  14. (Optional) If the upstream server is accessible only when the server supplies credentials, click Use this account, and then click Set Account. Then, in User, type the user name, in Password, type the password, and then click OK. In Authentication, type the authentication method.

Note

To open ISA Server Management, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft ISA Server, and then click ISA Server Management.
For ISA Server 2006 Enterprise Edition, expand Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006, expand Arrays, expand Array_Name, expand Configuration, and then click Networks.
For ISA Server 2006 Standard Edition, expand Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006, expand Server_Name, expand Configuration, and then click Networks.

Important

To use automatic dial-up entry for the backup route, you must configure a dial-up connection. For instructions, see Configure automatic dialing.
