SRSP2_H_DiffsrvPriorities

To configure priorities to apply to DiffServ values

  1. In the console tree of ISA Server Management, click General.

  2. In the details pane, click Specify DiffServ Preferences.

  3. On the Priorities tab, click Add.

  4. In the Add Priority dialog box, do the following:

    • In Priority name, type a name for this priority.
    • In DiffServ bits, type the appropriate six-digit binary string that represents the DiffServ value (this is also known as DSCP, the Differentiation Services Codepoint). The binary string should match the binary string used by your router for a particular Quality of Service (QoS) setting.
    • Select Apply a size limit to this priority if the priority should apply only to requests or responses of a maximum size. Then, in Size limit, specify the maximum size.
  5. Select Allow special handling of request and response headers if ISA Server should handle headers with a different (higher) priority than other parts of requests and responses. Then, in Use this priority, select the priority to apply to headers.

Note

To open ISA Server Management, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft ISA Server, and then click ISA Server Management.
For ISA Server 2006 Enterprise Edition, expand Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006, expand Arrays, expand Array_Name, expand Configuration, and then click General.
For ISA Server 2006 Standard Edition, expand Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006, expand Server_Name, expand Configuration, and then click General.

Important

The option Allow special handling of request and response headers according to this priority applies to the first block of traffic, and not to the first packet.
ISA Server will prioritize traffic for the Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) and domains specified on the URLs tab and Domains tab.
Packet prioritization using DiffServ works in networks whose routers support Quality of Service (QoS) functionality.
You can assign the priorities defined here to specific URLs and domains on the URLs tab and Domains tab. When ISA Server forwards requests for these URLs or domains to a router that supports QoS, it also forwards the DiffServ value specified for the priority. The router prioritizes the traffic accordingly.
If you select Apply a size limit to this priority, a request or response that exceeds the maximum size will receive the next priority in the order.
After you add the priorities, you can order them using the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys.
