Specify a Configuration Storage server for this array (Enterprise Edition)

To specify a Configuration Storage server for this array (Enterprise Edition)ISA Server 2006 Enterprise Edition only

  1. In the console tree of ISA Server Management, click the applicable array:

    • Expand Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006, expand Arrays, and then click Array_Name.
  2. On the Tasks tab, click Configure Array Properties.

  3. On the Configuration Storage tab, in Configuration Storage server, type the computer name or IP address of the Configuration Storage server to be used by this array.

  4. (Optional). In Alternate Configuration Storage server, type the computer name of an alternate Configuration Storage server to use if the first Configuration Storage server becomes unavailable.

  5. In Check the Configuration Storage server for updates every, select one of the following options:

    • 15 seconds. This is the default value and is a relatively high frequency, which helps ensure the freshest configuration information about the array members.
    • 10 minutes. This is suitable for relatively infrequent configuration changes.
    • 60 minutes. This is a relatively low frequency, recommended only when there are very infrequent changes to the configuration.
    • Custom. If you select this option, in the text box, type the number of seconds to use for an update frequency.

Note

For more information about enterprise management, see Enterprise Management Concepts in ISA Server 2006 at the Microsoft ISA Server TechCenter Web site (https://www.microsoft.com).
To open ISA Server Management, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft ISA Server, and then click ISA Server Management.

Important

We recommend that you configure the array to check the Configuration Storage server as frequently as possible, within the bandwidth constraints on your network.
After the primary Configuration Storage server is unavailable for 30 minutes, ISA Server switches to an alternate Configuration Storage server, if it is specified. After using the alternate Configuration Storage server for 6 hours, ISA Server periodically checks if the primary Configuration Storage server is available. After the primary server is available for 10 minutes, the array switches to the primary Configuration Storage server. The times specified in this procedure are the defaults. They can be configured using the ISA Server Software Development Kit (SDK). For a sample script that configures these defaults, see Setting Configuration Storage Server Delay Times at the (https://www.microsoft.com/).
After you change the Configuration Storage server, verify that the computer running ISA Server services is included in the Managed ISA Server Computers computer set.
To install a Configuration Storage server as a replicate of a Configuration Storage server in a different site, first use the AdamSites.exe tool. You can download the AdamSites.exe tool from the (https://www.microsoft.com/).
If the Configuration Storage server is not available, on a replicate Configuration Storage server, in ISA Server Management, change the Configuration Storage server for the array to this (replicate) Configuration Storage server. On each array member, run the script ChangeStorageServer.vbs, located in the ISA Server installation folder. For usage instructions, run cscript ChangeStorageServer.vbs ?.
To change the Configuration Storage server, you can reinstall ISA Server, specifying the Repair option. Stop the Microsoft Firewall service on the computer. During reinstallation, specify the name of the new Configuration Storage server. Note that when you use applications such as the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) Management Pack for ISA Server, you use ISA Server files and may interfere with ISA Server Setup. To avoid this problem, stop those applications before you do the following tasks: Repair, modify, install, or update ISA Server.
After you configure a new Configuration Storage server to use, the array will not immediately begin using the Configuration Storage server. Check the configuration status to see when the Configuration Storage server change is applied. For instructions on viewing the configuration status, see SREE_H_ViewConfigStatus.
