This section presents examples of Office Communications Server topologies designed to provide IM and conferencing functionality and other features of Office Communications Server ranging from a very small or pilot deployment up to a large global deployment. These topologies are provided as sample deployments; depending on your specific requirements, you can combine different pieces of these topologies to meet your needs. They are presented in order of complexity and size:

  • Small to Medium Deployment. Scenarios presents topologies appropriate for small or pilot deployments where high availability is not a requirement. These topologies build upon Standard Edition server to support internal IM and conferencing a user base of less than 5,000.

  • Centralized Enterprise Deployment. Scenarios presents topologies that provide high availability and support for user population of over 5,000 for organizations in a single physical site.

  • Global Deployments presents topologies that span multiple sites and provide high availability and scalability.
