Step 5. Review System and Network Requirements

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

After determining the features and components your Office Communications Server 2007 deployment will require, you will need to determine the degree to which your existing infrastructure meets the platform requirements for Office Communications Server 2007 and, if necessary, what changes or additions need to be made before deployment begins.

Changes or additions are likely because Office Communications Server 2007 includes many new components that were not present in its predecessor, Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1, including, Web and A/V conferencing servers, edge servers, integrated Address Book Server, and various Web components, as well as new client applications for IM, meetings, and scheduling.

This section provides detailed software and hardware requirements for both Office Communications Server 2007 and the Office Communicator 2007 client and bandwidth requirements for your network.
