Unless otherwise noted, the information in this article applies to both Microsoft Search Server 2008 and Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express.

Search services administrators can configure the crawler to ignore Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate name warnings that occur when the SSL certificate name does not exactly match the name that was expected. By default, SSL certificate warnings are not ignored. We recommend that you configure the crawler to ignore SSL certificate warnings only if you trust that all sites you crawl using SSL are legitimate.

You must be a search services administrator to perform this procedure. For more information, see Add or remove a search services administrator (Search Server 2008).

Configuring SSL certificate warnings

Use this procedure to configure the SSL certificate warnings.

To configure SSL certificate warnings

  1. On the Search Administration page, in the Crawling section, click Proxy and Timeouts. The Manage Farm-Level Search Settings page appears.

  2. In the SSL Certificate Warning Configuration section, select the Ignore SSL certificate name warnings check box if you want to trust that sites are legitimate even if their certificate names are not exact matches. Otherwise, ensure that the check box is not selected.

  3. Click OK.
