How to Save a Guest Operating System Profile While Creating a Template

You can use a Virtual Machine Manager guest operating system profile to configure operating system settings on virtual machines that you deploy or plan to deploy on physical host servers. By importing a guest operating system profile into a template and then using the template to create multiple virtual machines, you can ensure a consistent operating system configuration for each virtual machine in the set of virtual machines created from that template.

Procedure

Use the following procedure to save a guest operating system profile based on the settings that you configure while creating a virtual machine template.

To save a guest operating system profile

  1. On the Guest Operating System page of the New Virtual Machine Wizard or the New Template Wizard, click Save Profile to open the New Guest OS Profile dialog box.

  2. On the General tab, enter a name and description of the guest operating system profile and specify the owner. The owner must have an Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) account.

  3. On the Guest OS tab, you can edit the guest operating system settings that were imported from the template that you are creating.

What do you want to do?

    Note

Any changes that you make are not automatically imported into the virtual machine or template that you are creating. However, you can apply the template to import the settings.

  4. When you finish configuring the guest operating system settings, click OK to save the new profile and return to the Guest Operating System wizard page.

  5. If you want to import the settings from the new profile into the template that you are creating, select the profile in the Guest Operating System Profile list.
