Active Directory Domain Services in Office Communications Server

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

The supported Active Directory Domain Services topologies for Office Communications Server 2007 are as follows:

  • Single domains

    • Domains with only Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2003 R2 Microsoft Active Directory® domain controllers

    • Domains with only Windows 2000 Server SP4 domain controllers running in Native Mode

    • Domains with a combination of the above domain controllers

  • Multiple domains with a disjoint DNS namespace

  • Multiple forests

    • Central forest

    • Resource forest

  • Multiple-tree forests

Office Communications Server 2007 does not support collocation of any server role with a domain controller or a global catalog server.

Universal groups that, are created by Office Communications Server 2007 during preparation of the Active Directory Domain Services can be renamed and moved to different organizational units within the same domain; however, these groups cannot be moved to different domains or forests. Additionally, you cannot change the sAMAccountName Active Directory attribute in any way.

For details about using Active Directory with Office Communications Server, see the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Active Directory Guide.

Supported Domain Names

Office Communications Server should not be installed in a domain in which the last part of the FQDN begins with a numeral. For example, xxx.yyy.4zz and aaa.bbb.1ab are both invalid names, whereas 4xx.yyy.zzz and aaa.bbb.ab1 are both valid domain names.

The FQDN of any Office Communications Server, pool, array, or edge server can contain only ANSI alphanumeric characters and hyphens. Unicode characters are not supported, nor are underscores.

Office Communications Server and Office Communicator support only SIP URIs that conform to standard SIP grammar and that contain no escaped characters.
