Upgrading from DPM 2007 Evaluation Edition to DPM 2007 RTM

This topic provides the steps you must perform for a successful upgrade from the Evaluation Edition of DPM 2007 to DPM 2007 RTM:

You use the DPM Setup Wizard in Upgrade mode to install DPM 2007.

When upgrading to DPM 2007 RTM, note the following:

• If your Evaluation Edition of DPM 2007 was using a remote instance of SQL Server, the DPM 2007 RTM version will continue to use it.

• If your Evaluation Edition of DPM 2007 was using a dedicated instance of SQL Server (MS$DPM2007Eval$), DPM Setup will install the MS$DPM2007$ instance. You must manually uninstall the MS$DPM2007Eval$ instance after you have successfully upgraded DPM.

To install DPM 2007

1. Log on to the DPM server by using a domain user account that is a member of the local administrators group.

2. Insert the Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 product DVD in the DVD-ROM drive. If the DPM Setup Wizard does not start automatically, double-click Setup.exe in the root folder of the DVD.

   -Or-

   If you are installing DPM from a network share, navigate to the installation share, and then double-click Setup.exe in the root folder of the share.

3. On the Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 page, click Install Data Protection Manager.

4. The DPM Setup Wizard appears in Upgrade mode, and prompts you to upgrade.

5. On the Product Registration page, type the product key information that is located on the back cover of the DPM product package, and enter the number of agent licenses that you have purchased.

   The Wizard will guide you through the upgrade process.

   Note

   Select the same path for the program files and database files that you chose for the pre-release build.

6. After the upgrade is complete, click Close, and restart the DPM server.
