Understanding data recovery

To support data recovery, Data Protection Manager (DPM) creates shadow copies (also referred to as previous versions) of your protected data as specified in the protection schedule. DPM stores up to 64 shadow copies of your data, collected over a period of time, to provide for a wide range of recovery options. You can browse through the shadow copies to find, select, and recover previous versions of your protected data.

While you are deploying, configuring and operating DPM, you may want to learn more about the underlying technologies that support data recovery.
