Guidelines for using reporting

Published : April 8, 2005 | Updated : August 17, 2005

To avoid problems with DPM reporting, follow these guidelines.

Using SQL Server Reporting Services with DPM

DPM Setup ensures that the prerequisite software for DPM reporting is properly installed on the DPM server. However, it is possible for a user to later install software or components that can cause DPM reporting to malfunction.

  • Configure SQL Server Reporting Services to use Microsoft ASP.NET 1.1

If you install ASP.NET 2.0 on the DPM server after DPM Setup, DPM reporting may not function correctly. To resolve this problem, reconfigure Reporting Services to use ASP.NET 1.1. For more information, see the DPM Operations Guide.

  • Avoid installing SQL Server Reporting Services Report Manager on the DPM server.

If you need to install the SQL Server Reporting Services Report Manager for use by another application, we recommend that you not use this tool to modify DPM report settings or to change the reporting password.

Printing DPM reports

DPM reports have been designed to print on A4 paper without horizontally splitting the information across pages. The MHTML and PDF formats are not editable, so you cannot modify the report to fit other paper sizes.

For best print results, follow these procedures when printing reports:

To print MHTML reports

  1. On the Internet Explorer File menu, click Page Setup.

  2. Set paper size to A4.

  3. In the Orientation area, select a Portrait orientation.

  4. In the Margins area, set the margins in inches no greater than Left: 0.11, Right: 0.11, Top: 0.11, Bottom: 0.11.

  5. Print the report.

To print a PDF report

  1. In Adobe Acrobat, open the Print dialog box.

  2. Set Page Scaling to Shrink large pages (this is the default setting).

  3. Select Auto-Rotate and Center.

  4. On the Advanced tab, set the orientation to Portrait.

  5. Print the report.

  3. Set Scaling to Select Fit to 1 page(s) wide by 1 tall (preferred)

    - Or –

Adjust to: 80-85% of normal size
