Replica not created

Published : April 8, 2005 | Updated : August 17, 2005

Summary

This alert is generated in Data Protection Manager (DPM) when the replica for the specified volume or share has not yet been created. A full replica of the data selected for protection must be created and transferred to the DPM server before data protection activities can begin.

Causes

There are multiple causes for a replica not being created. The conditions and recommended actions associated with each cause are provided in the alert details. Possible causes for this alert include:

  • Replica creation job canceled

The replica creation job was either manually canceled by an administrator or automatically canceled by DPM to allow other higher priority jobs, such as recovery jobs, to be processed.

  • Replica creation pending

Disk space has been allocated to create the replica but the replica creation job has not yet started. This could be because the replica creation job has been canceled by an administrator. All subsequent protection activities for the protection group will fail until the replica is created and synchronized with consistency check.

  • Replica creation scheduled at a future time

When the protection group that is associated with this replica was created, replica creation was scheduled for a later time. The specified time has not yet occurred. This alert is for your information only, and no action is required. To check the status of replica creation, review the alert details for the affected protection group in the Monitoring task area. For more information, see How to display alert details.

  • Manual creation of replica pending

When creating the protection group associated with this replica, the administrator chose to create the replica manually by uploading a backup copy from removable media instead of copying the live data over the network. The manual process for creating the replica is not yet complete. All protection activities for the protection group will fail until the replica is created and you have synchronized the replica with the data on the file server by performing synchronization with consistency check.

Resolutions

If a replica creation job failed or was canceled before it could complete, you must manually synchronize the replica with consistency check. For more information, see How to synchronize a replica.

To manually create a replica

  1. Manually copy the selected data from the tape or other storage media to the specified replica path in the DPM storage pool.

  2. Perform a consistency check to synchronize the replica with the data on the protected file server. For more information, see How to synchronize a replica.
