The following sets of tables describe the documentation conventions used in the DPM 2006 Operations Guide.

Naming Conventions

The following table lists the naming conventions used in this guide.

Reader Alert Conventions

Reader alerts are used throughout this guide to notify you of both supplementary and essential information. The following table explains the meaning of each alert.

Reader Alert

Meaning

  Note

Alerts you to supplementary information that is useful to the completion of a task.

  Important

Alerts you to supplementary information that is essential to the completion of a task.

  Caution

Alerts you to possible data loss, security issues, or other more serious problems.

  Warning

Warns you that failure to take or avoid a specific action might result in a malfunction of the hardware or software.

Style Conventions

The following style conventions are used in text throughout this guide.

Convention

Description

Bold

Represents user interface elements, labels on menus and buttons, dialog box titles and options, icon names, and menu names.

Italic

Used in syntax statements or descriptive text to indicate variable names or placeholders for which you or DPM may supply a specific value. Italic is also used to introduce new terms, for book titles, and for emphasis.

Monospace

Commands and syntax that must be typed exactly as shown are printed in a monospace font.

Capital letters

Keyboard strokes are printed in capital letters.

Default paths

Locations of files and folders are specified in terms of default paths. If you have selected installation locations other than the defaults, make appropriate substitutions for the path information specified in the text.
