How to specify the recovery destination

Published : April 8, 2005 | Updated : August 17, 2005

You can accept the default destination (point of origin on a file server) when you recover data or you can specify an alternate destination for the recovered data. This option gives you the flexibility to recover data from the Data Protection Manager (DPM) server and save it to any of its protected file servers.

The default recovery destination

When you recover data, the default behavior of DPM is to restore the data to the location on the file server where it originated. If the data no longer exists at this location, the data is restored to the destination with its original name.

Note

To recover data to a new folder (one that does not exist on the destination server), use Windows Explorer to create the folder before you attempt to recover the data.

To specify an alternate recovery destination

In the Specify Alternate Recovery Destination dialog box, browse to a recovery destination, select it, and then click OK.

Where is the dialog box?

  1. In DPM Administrator Console, click Recovery on the navigation bar.

  2. Browse or search for the data you want to recover and then, in the results pane, select the data.

  3. In the Actions pane, select a recover action: Recover selected version or Show all versions.

  4. On the Data to Recover tab, select an item to recover and then click Change Destination.
