Manually Installing Prerequisite Software

In the event that automatic installation of one or more of the DPM prerequisite software products fails, you can install the software manually. If you are installing a prerequisite product from the DPM product CD, you can follow the instructions provided in this section. If you are installing a prerequisite product using a retail copy of the product, you can use the settings information provided in the instructions to configure the software properly for DPM.

Manually Installing Internet Information Services

  1. On the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Add/Remove Windows Components.

  2. On the Windows Components Wizard, select Application Server, and then click Details.

  3. On the Application Server dialog box, select ASP.NET, Enable network COM+ access, and Internet Information Services (IIS), and then click OK.

  4. On the Windows Components Wizard, click Next.

  5. When the installation is complete, click Finish.

Manually Installing the SQL Server Products

Manually installing the prerequisite SQL Server products from the DPM product CD involves creating an installation folder on the DPM server, and extracting the setup package in the installation folder. You can choose any name and location for the installation folder; for example, C:\DPMPrereqs. The setup package includes the following folders:

  • CD 1

    Contains setup files for SQL Server 2000 hotfix 859 and SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services Service Pack 1

  • CD 2

    Contains setup files for SQL Server 2000

  • CD 3

    Contains setup files for SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3a

  • CD 4

    Contains setup files for SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services

After the setup package is extracted in the installation folder, you can install any of the prerequisite SQL Server products.

To extract the setup package

  1. Insert the Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2006 product CD in the CD-ROM drive.

  2. Open a command prompt, and change directories to the CD-ROM drive.

  3. At the command prompt, type: DPMPrerequisites.exe /x: <installation folder>

    This command extracts the contents of the self-extracting setup package to the specified folder.

To manually install SQL Server 2000

  1. If you have not extracted the setup package, do so now.

  2. Run the setup program < installation folder >\CD2\Autorun.exe.

    The Setup wizard for SQL Server 2000 starts.

  3. On the menu page of the wizard, click SQL Server 2000 components, and then click Install Database Server.

    Note

    If the wizard displays a warning that the version of SQL Server you are installing is not compatible with the operating system, click Continue to proceed with the installation. Later in the DPM installation process, you will install a SQL Server service pack that resolves this issue.

  4. Follow the wizard instructions. Accept all default settings except as noted in the following table:

    Note

    Regardless of the account you specify on the Services Accounts page, when the DPM application is installed, it configures SQL Server to run under the MICROSOFT$DPM$Acct account. MICROSOFT$DPM$Acct is a local user account with limited privileges that is created by DPM Setup.

  5. After you have completed the installation, verify that SQL Server 2000 is running by following these steps:

    1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and select Services.

    2. Find the entry for the MSSQL$Microsoft$DPM$ service, and check the Status column to determine whether the service is started. If the service is not started, right-click MSSQL$Microsoft$DPM$, and click Start.

To manually install SQL Server 2000 SP3a

  1. If you have not extracted the setup package, do so now.

  2. Run the setup program < installation folder >\CD3\Setup.bat.

    The Setup wizard for SQL Server 2000 SP3a starts.

  3. Follow the wizard instructions. Accept all default settings, except as noted in the following table:

To manually install SQL Server 2000 hotfix 859

  1. If you have not extracted the setup package, do so now.

  2. Run the setup program < installation folder >\CD1\SQL2000-KB810185-8.00.0859.exe.

    The Setup wizard for SQL Server 2000 hotfix 859 starts.

  3. Follow the wizard instructions. Accept all default settings, including settings for Windows authentication.

To manually install SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services

  1. If you have not extracted the setup package, do so now.

  2. Run the setup program < installation folder >\CD4\Setup.exe.

    The Setup wizard for SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services starts.

  3. Follow the wizard instructions. Accept all default settings except as shown in the following table:

  3. Follow the wizard instructions. Accept all default settings.

  4. After you have completed the installation, verify that Reporting Services is properly configured by opening a Web browser and typing the following in the address field:
