1Only the branch distribution point role is supported for this operating system.
2It is not supported to install the Configuration Manager 2007 console on computers running any site system role except for the primary site server role.
3To use graphs in reports, Office Web Components (Microsoft Office 2000 SP2, Microsoft Office XP, or Microsoft Office 2003) must be installed. However, Office Web Components is not supported on 64-bit operating systems. If you want to use graphs in reports, use 32-bit operating systems for your reporting points. Additionally, some limitations apply when using Office Web Components as a server-side solution, which are documented in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 317316 at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=148270.
4Datacenter releases are supported but not certified for Configuration Manager 2007 SP1. Hotfix support is not offered for issues specific to Windows Datacenter Server edition.
5Configuration Manager 2007 support for x64 and Itanium-based systems is through 32-bit code running on 64-bit operating systems.
Unsupported Operating Systems
Unless explicitly specified, the list of unsupported operating system platforms has not changed for Configuration Manager 2007 from those listed in Configuration Manager Supported Configurations. However, additional operating systems can be past the service pack support dates.
To find the support timelines for your product, visit the Lifecycle Supported Service Packs Web site at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=31975. For additional information about Microsoft’s support lifecycle policy, visit the Microsoft Support Lifecycle Support Policy FAQ Web site at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=31976.
The following information describes changes to supported operating systems in Configuration Manager 2007 from those listed in Configuration Manager Supported Configurations.
- While the Windows 2000 SP4 operating system is supported for client installation, Windows 2000 clients are not supported for Configuration Manager 2007 sites operating in native mode.
Configuration Specifics
This section describes support configurations specific to Configuration Manager 2007. For additional general support configuration information for Configuration Manager 2007 installations, see Configuration Manager Supported Configurations.
Active Directory Schema Extensions
Configuration Manager 2007 Active Directory schema extensions provide many benefits for Configuration Manager 2007 sites, but they are not required for all Configuration Manager 2007 features. For more information about Active Directory schema extension considerations, see Decide If You Should Extend the Active Directory Schema.
If you have extended your Active Directory schema for SMS 2003, you should update your schema extensions for Configuration Manager 2007. Updating the Active Directory schema for Configuration Manager 2007 can be performed before or after upgrading to Configuration Manager and will not interfere with existing SMS 2003 site or client functionality. For more information about extending the Active Directory schema for Configuration Manager 2007, see How to Extend the Active Directory Schema for Configuration Manager.
SQL Server Site Database Configuration Considerations
When installing Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, the site database can be installed on either the default instance or a named instance of a supported SQL Server version installation. The instance used to host the site database can also be configured as a SQL Server failover cluster instance in an active/passive cluster, or multiple instance, configuration.
The following table describes the versions of SQL Server supported to host the Configuration Manager 2007 site database.
| SQL Server Version |
Edition |
Service Pack |
System Architecture |
|
SQL Server 2005
|
Standard or Enterprise Edition
|
SP2 or SP3
|
x86 or x64
|
|
SQL Server 2008
|
Standard or Enterprise Edition
|
|
x86 or x64
|
Note |
| Installing the site database on Itanium 64-bit platforms is not supported. |
Important |
| When using SQL Server 2008 to host the site database for a Configuration Manager 2007 site with no service pack installed, you must apply the following update to the site server computer, SMS Provider computer, and any computers hosting a remote Configuration Manager 2007 console: Microsoft article ID 955229 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=134671). This update can be installed before or after configuring the site database to be hosted by SQL Server 2008. |
Upgrade Considerations
This section describes important upgrade considerations for Configuration Manager 2007. For additional information about upgrading to Configuration Manager 2007, see Configuration Manager 2007 Upgrade Checklist.
Upgrading the site database server from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008
It is not supported to perform an in-place upgrade of the SQL Server 2005 instance hosting the Configuration Manager 2007 site database to SQL Server 2008.
To use SQL Server 2008 to host the site database for Configuration Manager 2007 with no service pack installed, the site database must first be installed on a SQL Server 2005 instance and then that instance must be upgraded to SQL Server 2008.
