Reporting

License reports do not include Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007

The licensing model used by Microsoft Exchange Server is currently not supported by SMS Advanced Client. Microsoft Exchange Server stores license-relevant data in Microsoft Active Directory and is therefore not inventoried as part of the SMS inventory cycle. As a result, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 do not appear on license reports.

WORKAROUND:   None.

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 will be inventoried as two installed products on a single computer

Software inventory data is gathered from multiple sources which are then joined and filtered. Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 is detected in more than one source but cannot be correctly filtered. As a result, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 will be inventoried as two installed products on a single computer.

WORKAROUND:   None.

Some Hardware Asset Management reports list a computer multiple times with different Computer Serial Numbers.

In some Asset Management Hardware reports, computers are listed with the computer serial number. If the computer is a laptop connected to a docking station, then the serial number of the docking station will be inventoried as well as the serial number of the laptop. In these cases the computer will be listed twice, one row for each serial number and the computer name will be the same for both rows.

WORKAROUND:   None.

The inventoried quantity corresponding to MSDN Professional on License 1A may be inaccurate.

The Microsoft Product Code (MPC) value 56056 appears to be associated with MSDN Professional (Part Number 388-02776) as well as at least one other product. This can result in inaccurate counts.

WORKAROUND:   None.

Some computers may have more than one user listed as the primary console user.

DESCRIPTION: Some of the Asset Management reports display the primary computer user for a specific machine. In some cases a machine may be listed twice with a different primary computer user for each listing. The correct primary computer user is the one with the latest logon time. The other listing should be disregarded.

WORKAROUND:   None

Console usage times may be inaccurate for some users

The Asset Management reports calculate console usage times based on matching Logon and Logoff events in the clients' security logs. In the case where a logon event does not have a matching logoff event, then the console usage time is calculated based on either the next logon event or the next system shutdown event, whichever come first. This calculation may cause some console usage times to be longer than the actual logged on time for some users.

WORKAROUND:   None.

A Warning Message Is Not Displayed If the Number of Possible Values for a Report's Prompt Is Greater than 32,767

SMS reports can contain prompts with an associated SQL statement that generates a significantly large list of possible values for the user to choose from. When running such a report, the prompt is displayed and the user can click Values to populate the list of possible values. A very large number of possible values can affect performance. Therefore, to ensure reasonable performance, only 1,000 possible values are displayed, even if there are more.

When the actual number of possible values is more than 1,000 and less than or equal to 32,767, a warning message is displayed, indicating that only 1,000 out of n possible values are being displayed (where n is the actual number of possible values.) However, if the actual number of possible values is greater than 32,767, 1,000 possible values are displayed, but no warning message is displayed.

WORKAROUND:   Be aware that if the list of possible values is generated from a large table, and there is no warning message, it is likely that there are more than 32,767 possible values. Allow for the use of wildcards to limit the number of possible values returned for a report prompt.

Report Viewer Does Not Display Characters Correctly in Computer Details Page

Some characters might not be displayed correctly in the Computer Details page in the Report Viewer. This is because Microsoft Internet Explorer is not using the correct encoding mechanism to render the characters.

WORKAROUND:   Right-click each right window pane where report results are displayed, click View, and then select Encoding. Select the appropriate language for the characters that you want to view.

The Computer Details page is unique because it contains multiple panes and each pane has its own encoding setting. Changing the encoding setting in the View menu does not affect the encoding settings of the child panes. It affects only the scope of the parent pane, and therefore it does not resolve the problem.
