Troubleshooting the MBSA Management Pack

Download of MSSecure.cab File Through Proxy Server Fails

If the File Transfer Server is connected to the Internet through a proxy server and the proxy server is configured to prompt for a username and password, the download might fail.

There are three possible methods to workaround this issue:

  • Manually update the MSSecure.cab file.

  • Explicitly exclude the File Transfer Server from the applicable policy on the proxy server.

  • Bypass the proxy server by directly connecting the File Transfer Server to the Internet.

Agent Download of MSSecure.cab file from File Transfer Server Fails

The file transfer response uses the HTTP protocol to download files from a File Transfer server to a MOM 2005 agent. If the file transfer fails, ensure that port 80 is open on both the agent computer and the File Transfer Server. There is no need to use Secured Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption to secure the transfer of the MSSecure.cab file.

Download MSSecure.cab Task Fails

The Download MSSecure.cab task requires that MBSA be installed on the targeted agent computer. MBSA is installed on agent computers by the Run vulnerability and security patch scan rule in the MOM Agent rule group of the MBSA Management Pack. This rule is disabled by default. If you receive errors after running the Download MSSecure.cab task, ensure that this processing rule is enabled.
