Upgrading MOM 2000 SP1 Configuration Groups with Multihomed Agents

If you have multihomed MOM 2000 SP1 agents, there are two approaches that you can take to upgrade to MOM 2005.

Upgrading All MOM 2000 SP1 Configuration Groups Before Upgrading the Agents

You can upgrade all MOM 2000 SP1 configuration groups that a multihomed agent belongs to before you upgrade the multihomed agent. In this case, the MOM 2005 Transition Management Pack is not required. For directions to upgrade the configuration groups and agents, see the "Upgrading MOM 2000 SP1 on Multiple Computers to MOM 2005" section earlier in this chapter.

Upgrading One MOM 2000 SP1 Configuration Group at a Time

To upgrade the MOM 2000 SP1 configuration groups that a multihomed MOM 2000 SP1 agent belongs to, one configuration group at a time, use the following procedure.

To upgrade MOM 2000 SP1 configuration groups with multihomed agents one at a time

  1. Upgrade all MOM components within the first MOM 2000 SP1 configuration group except for the multihomed agents.

  2. Import the MOM 2005 Transition Management Pack on any DCAM in all the MOM 2000 SP1 configuration groups that the multihomed agents belong to. This Management Pack enables a MOM 2000 SP1 configuration group to process the alerts, events, and performance data sent by a multihomed MOM 2005 agent. It is on the product CD in the UpgradeTools folder.

    Note

The MOM 2005 Transition Management Pack is only for MOM server and agent issues during the upgrade process and does not handle issues during the upgrade process for other Management Packs.

  3. Upgrade the multihomed agents to MOM 2005.

  4. Upgrade the remaining MOM 2000 SP1 configuration groups, one at a time. When you upgrade a configuration group, setup installs the standard MOM 2005 Management Pack. The MOM 2005 Transition Management Pack is not uninstalled.

  5. After upgrading all MOM 2000 SP1 configuration groups that a multihomed agent belongs to, you can import and upgrade additional MOM 2005 Management Packs. For more information about importing Management Packs, see Chapter 6, "Deploying MOM 2005 Management Packs."
