Resetting a Site by Running SMS Site Reset

SMS site reset stops the core SMS site services, removes them, and then reinstalls them. By using SMS site reset, you can do the following:

  • Repair a damaged site server.

  • Make account or password changes effective.

  • Force the site to use a different SQL Server database name or a server running SQL Server, or a different SQL Server security mode.

If there has been a change to the accounts used by the SMS components, site reset ensures the account details used by the SMS components are correct.

The exact effect of site reset depends on how you initiate it and which options you chose. For more information about site reset, see Chapter 5, "Understanding SMS Security," in the Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 Concepts, Planning, and Deployment Guide.
