Deploying the Management Pack into Production

Import the Management Pack into the Production Environment

When you import the Management Pack into your production environment, do not merge the Management Pack with an existing Management Pack. Instead, select the Replace existing Management Pack option to overwrite the previous version. This preserves the integrity of the Management Pack that you established in your test and pilot phase.

Deploy the Management Pack to Production Servers

If you are updating an existing Management Pack, then the Management Pack is automatically applied to the servers that were previously monitored. If you are introducing a new Management Pack, then ensure that the appropriate agents are added to the management group. For information about adding agents to the management group, see the Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Deployment Guide.

After importing the Management Pack, verify that:

  • Agents are installed.

  • Agent status is current.

  • Agents are added to the appropriate computer groups.

Archive Management Packs

Save a copy of the Management Packs that result from the pilot testing phase, and archive these to preserve your work.

Create Pilot Testing Reports

Pilot testing reports can include:

  • Test case scenarios

  • Test results

  • Configuration changes

  • Recommendations for the next phases of MOM deployment.
