Windows Desktop Base Operating System Management Pack Guide
The Microsoft Windows Desktop Base Operating System Management Pack monitors the performance, health, and availability of Microsoft Windows XP Professional.
The Windows Desktop Base Operating System Management Pack is intended to be used for monitoring only mission critical computers. Mission critical computers are desktop computers that must be available at all times and which are well connected to the MOM Server. This Management Pack is not suited for computers that are not mission critical, such as laptops. Those computers can be regularly disconnected and therefore are often unavailable.
By detecting, alerting on, and automatically responding to critical events and performance indicators, this Management Pack reduces resolution times for issues and increases the overall availability and performance of your Microsoft Windows XP-based mission-critical computers. As a result, the Windows Desktop Base Operating System Management Pack reduces the total cost of ownership of Microsoft Windows XP-based computers.

This guide corresponds to version 05.0.3000.0000 of the Windows Desktop Base Operating System Management Pack. After importing the Management Pack, check the version to ensure that it is correct.
To view the version of the installed Management Pack
In the Administrator console, expand Management Packs and then expand Rule Groups.
Right-click Microsoft Desktop Base Operating System (enabled), and then select Properties.
On the General tab, in the Rule Group Properties dialog box, the Version field displays the version number.
