Windows Desktop Base Operating System Management Pack Guide

The Microsoft Windows Desktop Base Operating System Management Pack monitors the performance, health, and availability of Microsoft Windows XP Professional.

The Windows Desktop Base Operating System Management Pack is intended to be used for monitoring only mission critical computers. Mission critical computers are desktop computers that must be available at all times and which are well connected to the MOM Server. This Management Pack is not suited for computers that are not mission critical, such as laptops. Those computers can be regularly disconnected and therefore are often unavailable.

By detecting, alerting on, and automatically responding to critical events and performance indicators, this Management Pack reduces resolution times for issues and increases the overall availability and performance of your Microsoft Windows XP-based mission-critical computers. As a result, the Windows Desktop Base Operating System Management Pack reduces the total cost of ownership of Microsoft Windows XP-based computers.

Note

Scalability figures for the number of managed desktop computers are the same as they are for managed server computers. For information about performance and scalability, see "Performance and Scalability" on the Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Supported Configurations Web page.
