Configuring Additional Source Management Groups

Repeat the steps used in the "Configure the First Source Management group" section earlier in this chapter to configure up to nine additional source management groups. After adding all the source management groups, make sure that the destination management group has all the Management Packs and customized rules that the source management groups have.

Note

MOM does not automatically synchronize changes in a Management Pack on the source management group with the destination management group. You must manually synchronize any subsequent changes to rules.

Forwarding Alerts Using the MOM-to-MOM Product Connector

When the MOM-to-MOM Product Connector (MMPC) forwards alerts from two or more source management groups to the same destination management group, .alerts that are generated by the same rule are suppressed into a single alert in the destination. This problem occurs when a rule that generates an alert has alert suppression turned on and the Computer and Domain check boxes are not selected. No updates for the duplicate alert are forwarded.

The MMPC on each source management group that forwarded a duplicate alert creates an event like the following event in the Application Event Log:

Source: MOM to MOM Connector
Event ID: 10069
Type: Warning
Description: The following alert was not updated because it was suppressed into the corresponding alert
(original alert id ==> suppressed alert id): 27a75f24-b37b-4e5b-8cc2-996fb1349861 ==> 9ce1e91f-c967-4e26-9bba-3fc2e58b2994
MOM master management group: <Destination_Management_Group_Name>
Error on: http://<Destination_Management_Server>:1271/ConnectorServiceV2.asmx

The MOM to MOM Product Connector rule group on the source management group also might create an alert error for this event log.

On the destination management group, the unresolved alert's Repeat Count increases. You can identify the alert by the alert id value on the suppressed alert id of the event log in the source management server (in the example: 9ce1e91f-c967-4e26-9bba-3fc2e58b2994).

For each rule that produces an Event ID of 10069 in the Application Event Log on the source management server for the MOM-to-MOM Connector, perform the following procedure on both the source management group and the destination management group.

On the destination management group, identify the unresolved alert that has an increased Repeat Count (see event log from the source management server). From the alert Rule property, obtain the path to the rule that generated the alert .

To correct many event rules, you can perform this procedure on the source management group and then export the changes to the destination management group.

To set computer and domain properties on the Alert Suppression tab

  1. In the MOM Administrator console, in the source management group, expand Microsoft Operations Manager, and then expand Rule Groups.

  2. Find the rule that generated the duplicate alert.

  3. Right-click the rule, and then click Properties.

  4. On the Alert Suppression tab, select the Computer check box and the Domain check box, and then click OK.

  5. Right-click Management Packs, and then click Commit Configuration Change.
