Determine Which Clients Require Upgrades Prior to Installing Office XP
In the sample scenario, the administrator and the corporate decision-maker decided to upgrade the operating systems that are not supported by Office XP as show in Table A.4.
Table A.4 Actions Based on Client Environment
Client environment |
Action |
---|---|
Windows NT 4.0 SP6a users without local administrative rights (Office 2000 Public Update 1 is not already installed) |
Upgrade clients that do not already have Office 2000 Public Update 1 installed to Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional. |
Windows NT 4.0 SP6a without local administrative rights (Office 2000 Public Update 1 is already installed) |
Clients with low rights running Windows NT 4.0 SP6a that are upgrading from Office 2000 Public Update 1 do not need the SFU, and Office XP can be directly deployed. |
Windows XP and Windows 2000 Professional |
No action needed. Clients running Windows XP Professional, and Windows 2000 Professional already have the proper files and do not require the SFU. |
Windows 98 |
No action needed. Clients running Windows 98 allow the SFU installation to complete successfully after the restart. |
