Troubleshoot MOM 2005 Installation

This section provides troubleshooting solutions for issues that might occur during the installation of MOM 2005.

MOMService Account Already Exists

During installation, the Setup program creates a group named MOMService. The Setup program fails if an account with the same name already exists in the domain. This can occur if Setup is run multiple times.

Solution

Remove the existing MOMService account from the domain.

Installation of Management Server Stops Unexpectedly

A Management Server installation can stop unexpectedly if the IIS Default Web Site is not available. This can happen if you have deleted the IIS Default Web Site or IIS has been uninstalled. The MOM Web Console requires IIS and the IIS Default Web Site.

Solution

Reinstall IIS if it has been uninstalled. If the IIS Default Web Site has been deleted, re-create it by using the IIS Services Manager.

MOM Database Already Exists

When installing MOM on a computer that previously hosted a MOM database, the Setup program returns an error if the MOM database or the files associated with it (EeaData.mdf and EeaLog.ldf) still exist on the computer.

Solution

Delete the OnePoint database that stores MOM data and all the files associated with it. If you do not want to delete the existing OnePoint database, you can select a different database instance during the MOM installation or choose a different location for the new database and transaction log files.

MOM Database Connectivity Fails

The Setup program does not complete and rolls back if it cannot connect to the MOM database. This can occur when you are installing MOM 2005 on a computer that is not connected to a network or that is a member of a workgroup.

Solution

Attempt to connect the computer running MOM 2005 Setup to the MOM database before running Setup again. If the computer is in a workgroup, make sure you are using an account that is a member of the domain Administrators group. Also, it might be necessary to empty the cached logon credentials on the computer before re-running Setup.
