Creating Updates Using the Custom Maintenance Wizard

After an Office XP installation has been deployed, it is not possible to change the installation settings using a Windows Installer transform file without reinstalling Office XP. However, you can update these settings dynamically on the client by using a configuration maintenance file (.cmw) produced by using the Custom Maintenance Wizard.

The Custom Maintenance Wizard is a tool that allows administrators to maintain existing Office XP installations on clients. It works with Windows Installer version 1.1 and later. Office XP Setup installs Windows Installer version 1.1.

By using the Custom Maintenance Wizard, you can modify features that you set in the Custom Installation Wizard, including default user settings, security levels, Outlook settings, and registry keys.

The Custom Maintenance Wizard creates a .cmw file based on the Windows Installer package (.msi file) used in the Office XP installation.
