Site Installation

The following table summarizes enhancements to site installation features in SMS Setup.

Table 1.9 SMS 2003 Setup Features

Feature

Description

Security mode

SMS administrators can select from standard security mode or advanced security mode depending on their organization's needs.

Extend the Active Directory Schema during and after setup

The Active Directory schema can be extended on the SMS Active Directory Schema page during setup. This only applies to installations in Active Directory domains. The Active Directory schema must be extended when the SMS administrator plans to implement global roaming for Advanced Clients. Extending the Active Directory schema requires schema administrator rights.

SQL Server Memory option for dynamically configuring SQL Server memory

This setting adjusts the amount of memory that is used, based on demand. Before changing this option, see the SQL Server product documentation for performance and tuning information.

Secondary site installation options

A secondary site can be installed from the SMS 2003 CD or from an image of that CD on a mapped network drive, hard disk, or a secondary site removable drive. A secondary site can also be installed from the primary site by using the SMS Administrator console. This was an SMS 2.0 feature.
