Planning for Backup and Recovery

Although it might seem unnecessary to plan for backup and recovery at such an early stage of your Microsoft® Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 hierarchy deployment, it is the perfect time to consider backup and recovery requirements, to develop a recovery plan, and to incorporate backup and recovery preparation into your SMS deployment plan.

A site recovery is a complex process, and it is recommended that you plan ahead and be prepared. This helps you in the following ways:

  • You minimize the risk of failure in your site.

  • You minimize the impact of a failure on your site, if it occurs.

  • You simplify the recovery process, reduce the time of the recovery process, and minimize data loss, in the event of failure.

This chapter explains the concepts of site backup and recovery, and helps you plan for a successful site recovery.
