Understanding Interoperability with SMS 2.0
This chapter describes issues that are related to administering a mixed-version Microsoft® Systems Management Server (SMS) hierarchy A mixed-version hierarchy contains both SMS 2003 sites and SMS 2.0 sites with Service Pack 4 (SP4) or later. To continue supporting client platforms that are not supported by SMS 2003, you can choose to upgrade only part of the SMS 2.0 hierarchy to SMS 2003. This mixed-version hierarchy contains sites of both versions.
SMS 2003 supports interoperability with SMS 2.0 SP4 or later sites. Both versions can coexist within a single hierarchy, but an SMS 2003 site cannot be a child to an SMS 2.0 site. SMS 1.2 sites are not supported in hierarchies that contain SMS 2003 sites.
For information about upgrade, see Chapter 11, "Planning an Upgrade," and Chapter 14, "Upgrading to SMS 2003."
