Domain and Security Requirements

Computers must belong to a domain to become SMS 2003 clients. Client computers that are in workgroups are not supported by SMS.

Planning your SMS deployment includes a number of security considerations. Your SMS security strategy affects all of the following:

  • Operating system configuration

  • Support for software that works with SMS, such as IIS, SQL Server and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)

  • Logical and physical placement of site systems

  • Creation of user and computer accounts

  • Communications to appropriate departments in the organization

  • Policies and procedures for use of SMS
