SMS Activities That Affect SMS Server Performance

When you monitor the performance of hardware resources on SMS component servers, you gain insight into the way the server processes information under different conditions. It is important to spot potential problem sources, and to develop and analyze performance trends under different conditions, before problems materialize. Achieving this kind of analysis is a two-step process of baseline creation and real-time tracking. It is useful to examine different SMS server activities and how those activities alone and in combination can affect server performance. You should familiarize yourself with the activities that occur at site servers and at each site system, and you should understand how network communications among SMS servers and SMS clients within and between sites can affect server performance. For more information, see Chapter 3, "Understanding SMS Features." Next, compose a list of SMS activities that might particularly influence SMS server performance in your SMS site. SMS activities fall into two categories:

  • SMS server activities

  • SMS-related network activities
