Manage content deployment paths and jobs

Content deployment paths specify a source and destination for content deployment and other related settings. Content deployment jobs specify a content deployment path to use for content deployment, a schedule (optional), and other related settings.

To manage content deployment paths and jobs, open the Manage Content Deployment Paths and Jobs page:

  1. On the top navigation bar, click Operations.

  2. On the Operations page, in the Content Deployment section, click Content deployment paths and jobs.

What do you want to do?

  • Create a new content deployment path

  • Edit a content deployment path

  • Delete a content deployment path

  • Create a new content deployment job

  • Edit a content deployment job

  • Delete a content deployment job

  • Manually start a content deployment job

  • Cancel a content deployment job

Create a new content deployment path

  1. On the Manage Content Deployment Paths and Jobs page, click New Path.

  2. On the Create Content Deployment Path page, type a name for the content deployment path in the Type the name of this path box.

  3. Type a description of the content deployment path in the Type the description of the content deployment path box.

  4. In the Source Web Application and Site Collection section, in the Source Web application list, click a source Web application.

  5. Click a source site collection on the Source site collection menu.

    The Web application and site collection determine from where the content is being deployed. After you make your selections, the source location is displayed under URL.

  6. In the Destination Central Administration Web Application section, type the URL of the destination Central Administration server in the Type the URL of the Destination Central Administration Server box.

    Note

    This is the URL of the Central Administration server on the destination server; it is not the URL of the server that is configured to accept incoming content deployment jobs.

  7. In the Authentication Information section, select one of the following:

    • Connect by using the application pool account   Select this option if you want to use the application pool account to authenticate on the destination Central Administration server.

    • Connect by using a different account   Select this option if you want to use an account other than the application pool account for authentication on the destination Central Administration server. If you select this option, select an authentication type and provide credentials for the account to use for authentication.

  8. Click Connect.

    Note

    If the credentials you entered are valid, the message Connection succeeded appears.

    You are connected to the destination Central Administration server, which supplies a list of eligible destination Web applications and site collections.

  9. In the Destination Web Application and site collection section, click a destination Web application in the Destination Web application list.

  10. In the Destination Site Collection list, click a destination site collection.

  11. In the User Names section, select the Deploy user names check box if you want user names to be included when this path is used for content deployment.

  12. In the Security Information section, in the Security information in the content deployment list, click one of the following:

    • All

    • Roll Definitions Only

    • None

  13. Click OK.

Edit a content deployment path

  • On the Manage Content Deployment Paths and Jobs page, click Edit on the menu for the path that you want to edit.

    For more information about the settings that you can edit, see the Create a new content deployment path section.

Delete a content deployment path

  • On the Manage Content Deployment Paths and Jobs page, click Delete on the menu for the path that you want to delete.

  • Click OK in the message box that asks whether you want to proceed with the deletion.

Create a new content deployment job

  1. On the Manage Content Deployment Paths and Jobs page, click New Job.

  2. On the Content Deployment Job page, in the Name and Description section, type a name for the content deployment job in the Name box.

  3. In the Description box, type a description for the content deployment job.

  4. In the Path section, click the content deployment path on the Select a content deployment path menu.

  5. In the Scope section, select one of the following:

    • Entire site collection   Select this option if you want to include all sites in the site collection in the deployment.

    • Specific sites within the site collection   Select this option if you want to specify sites within the site collection in the deployment. If you select this option, click Select sites to select the sites to include in the deployment.

  6. In the Frequency section, you can clear the Run this job on the following schedule check box to run the job manually, or you can select the Run this job on the following schedule check box to specify a schedule.

  7. In the Deployment Options section, select one of the following:

    • Deploy only new, changed, or deleted content   Select this option to deploy content that is new or content that has been changed or deleted.

    • Deploy all content, including content that has been deployed before   Select this option to deploy all content.

  8. In the Notification section, if you want to receive e-mail after the content deployment job has been completed successfully, select the Send e-mail when the content deployment job succeeds check box.

  9. If you want to receive e-mail when the content deployment job fails, select the Send e-mail if the content deployment job fails check box.

  10. If you select either the Send e-mail when the content deployment job succeeds or the Send e-mail if the content deployment job fails check box, type an e-mail address in the Type e-mail addresses box.

Edit a content deployment job

  • On the Manage Content Deployment Paths and Jobs page, click Edit on the menu for the job that you want to edit.

    For more information about the settings that you can edit, see the Create a new content deployment job section.

Delete a content deployment job

  1. On the Manage Content Deployment Paths and Jobs page, click Delete on the menu for the job that you want to delete.

  2. Click OK in the message box that asks whether you want to proceed with the deletion.

Manually start a content deployment job

  • On the Manage Content Deployment Paths and Jobs page, click Run Now on the menu for the job that you want to start.

  • The status of the job is reported in the Status column.

Cancel a content deployment job

  • On the Manage Content Deployment Paths and Jobs page, click Cancel on the menu for the job that you want to cancel.

  • The status of the job is reported in the Status column.
