Before you perform this procedure, confirm that:

  • You have read the topic Import user profiles.

  • Your system is running either the Standard or Enterprise version of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

  • Import connections to directory services and the Business Data Catalog have been configured.

Important

Administrators must have access to the Shared Services Provider (SSP) administration site, and must have the Manage User Profiles permission enabled to complete this procedure.

Properties in user profiles can be mapped to properties or fields in external data sources, such as directory services and the Business Data Catalog. Mapped properties use the imported value of the property, which is kept current using import connections to the data source. Multivalued properties can be mapped (and are marked with an "(M)" in the selection menu), but only the first value is imported. Mapped properties cannot be edited.

Mapped properties have their own policies, so it is important when mapping properties to set the policy to match the privacy policy of the property to which it is mapped.

To map user profile properties

Use the following procedure to map user profile properties to data sources.

Map user profile properties to data sources

  1. On the User Profiles and Properties page, in the User Profile Properties section, click View profile properties.

  2. On the View Profile Properties page, click the property, and then click Edit on the menu.

  3. On the Edit User Profile Property page, in the Property Import Mapping section, click the connection you want to use on the Source Data Connection menu.

    Note

    This menu includes the Master Connection for all directory services connections, and each of the connections to entities in the Business Data Catalog.

  4. To map to a property in the master connection, select Data source field to map, and then click a property in the menu, or select Enter field to map and type the name of the data source field.

    Note

    All properties from SSPs in trusted domains appear in this list.

  5. To map to a field in the Business Data Catalog:

    1. Select the Map to an associated entity field check box and then click an entity on the Associated Entity menu.

    2. On the Data source field to map menu, click the data source field to map to this property.

  6. Click OK.

Property values are mapped the next time user profiles are imported.
