This article contains information about how to add servers to a farm and how to configure farm services.
To deploy a highly available solution, you must deploy a server farm. Server farm environments can encompass a variety of topologies and can include many servers or as few as two servers. Server farms help you to mitigate the effects of unexpected downtime and downtime related to ongoing maintenance, such as operating system updates. When you host many sites, a server farm environment gives the best possible performance and scalability of a multi-tier topology.
Various server topology examples are available that can be used as a template for building out a farm. Each of these topologies builds in a level of server redundancy. After the initial installation and configuration of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, you can configure several services. The configuration of services is necessary to take full advantage of the administrative features and capabilities of Office SharePoint Server 2007.
