Manage Excel Services user-defined functions

If your deployment scenarios include workbooks that contain user-defined functions (UDFs) to extend the capabilities of Excel Calculation Services, you need to configure Excel Services to support UDFs. To configure UDF support, you must enable UDFs on trusted file locations containing workbooks that require access to UDFs. In addition, you must register UDF assemblies on the Excel Services user-defined function assembly list.

To manage Excel Services user-defined function assemblies, open the Excel Services User-Defined Functions page:

  1. Open the administration page for the Shared Services Provider (SSP).

    To open the administration page for the SSP, do the following:

    1. On the top navigation bar, click Application Management.

    2. On the Application Management page, in the Office SharePoint Server Shared Services section, click Create or configure this farm’s shared services.

    3. On the Manage this Farm’s Shared Services page, click the SSP for which you want to open the administration page.

  2. On the Shared Services Administration Home page, in the Excel Services Settings section, click User-defined function assemblies.

Add a user-defined function assembly

  1. On the Excel Services User-Defined Functions page, click Add User-Defined Function Assembly.

  2. On the User-Defined Function Assembly page, in the Assembly details section, type the assembly name in the Assembly box.

  3. Under Assembly Location, select one of the following:

  4. Under Enable Assembly, select the Assembly enabled check box to enable Excel Calculation Services to call the assembly. You can clear the check box to disable the assembly without removing the function assembly from the list.

  5. In the Description box, you can optionally type a description of the purpose for the function assembly.

  6. Click OK.

Edit a user-defined function assembly

  • On the Excel Services User-Defined Functions page, point to the user-defined function assembly that you want to edit, click the arrow that appears, and then click Edit.

Delete a user-defined function assembly

  1. On the Excel Services User-Defined Functions page, point to the user-defined function assembly that you want to delete, click the arrow that appears, and then click Delete.

  2. Click OK in the message box that asks whether you want to proceed with the deletion.
