Manage server name mappings (Office SharePoint Server)

Add a server name mapping to override how search results are displayed and how users access content after you create a content index. Delete a server name mapping when you no longer want to override how search results are displayed in search results or how users access content after you create a content index.

Note

Read permission on the Shared Services Provider Administration site collection is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To add a server name mapping

Follow this procedure to add a server name mapping.

Add a server name mapping

  1. Depending on the status of your installation, complete one of the following steps to display the Server Name Mappings page.

    • If the Infrastructure Update for Microsoft Office Servers is installed, in Central Administration, on the Quick Launch, in the Shared Services Administration group, click a shared service.

      On the Shared Services Administration page, in the Search section, click Search Administration.

      In the Quick Launch, in the Queries and Results group, click Server name mappings.

    • If the Infrastructure Update for Microsoft Office Servers is not installed, in Central Administration, on the Quick Launch, in the Shared Services Administration group, click a shared service.

      In the Search section, click Search settings.

      In the Crawl Settings section, click Server name mappings.

  2. On the Server Name Mappings page, click New Mapping.

  3. On the Add Server Name Mapping page, in the Address in index box, type the address for the content that will be crawled.

  4. In the Address in search results box, type the address that appears in the search results and from which a user can access the content.

  5. Click OK.

To edit a server name mapping

You can edit either the address used in the index or the address that appears in the search results for the mapping.

Edit a server name mapping

  1. On the Server Name Mappings page, in the Address for indexing column, click the address for which you want to edit the mapping.

  2. On the Edit Server Name Mapping page, in the Server Names section, make your edits in the Address in index and Address in search results boxes.

  3. Click OK.

Deleting a server name mapping

  • On the Server Name Mappings page, in the list of mappings, point to the mapping that you want to delete, click the arrow that appears, and then click Delete.
