Create Partition Wizard (Select Partition Scheme Page)

Use the Select Partition Scheme page to choose the partition scheme you want for your partitions.

The choices you have for the partition scheme are determined primarily by the partitioning column and partition function you selected for your table. The partition scheme maps your data into filegroups based on the datatype of the selected partitioning column and the boundary values of the partition function.

If you have selected a partition function for which there are similar partition schemes that have previously been created for other partitions, you can either create a new partition scheme or choose an existing scheme from the Existing partition scheme dropdown list.

If there are no available partition schemes that you can re-use to partition your data, you will need to select New partition scheme and enter a name for a new partition scheme on this page.

  • New partition scheme
    Enter the name of the new partition scheme you want to create to map the rows of the selected table into filegroups based on the options selected in the previous pages of the wizard.

  • Existing partition scheme
    Select an existing partition scheme from the list of available partition schemes.

    If there are no available partition schemes based on your previous selections in the wizard, you must create a new partition scheme.
