Prepare to host sites (SharePoint Server 2010)

After you have installed Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and performed the initial configuration, you can begin to create SharePoint sites. Before you create a site collection, you must first create a Web application in which to create the site collection. If you want to use Kerberos authentication or claims-based authentication, you must also configure Web application authentication.

The articles in this section help you determine the hierarchy of your SharePoint sites and how to configure claims authentication and Kerberos authentication in the server farm.
