The 2007 Microsoft Office Security Guide

The 2007 Microsoft Office Security Guide is now contained in the 2007 Microsoft Office Security Compliance Management Toolkit (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=103573). The toolkit, which is part of the Security Compliance Management Toolkit series, provides an end-to-end solution to help you plan, deploy, and monitor the security baselines of computers that are running the following 2007 Microsoft Office system Service Pack 1 (SP1) applications:

  • Microsoft Office Access 2007

  • Microsoft Office Excel 2007

  • Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2007

  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007

  • Microsoft Office Word 2007

The toolkit includes updated versions of the 2007 Microsoft Office Security Guide and the GPOAccelerator tool. These resources provide prescriptive information and automated tools to help you establish and deploy your security baselines. As before, the Office Security Guide offers preconfigured security baselines for the following two types of environments:

  • Enterprise Client. This security baseline is best for most organizations in which functionality is evenly balanced with security.

  • Specialized Security – Limited Functionality. This security baseline is best for organizations in which concern for security is so great that a significant loss of functionality is acceptable. For example, military and security agency organizations operate in this type of environment.

The toolkit also includes two configuration packs, which you can use with the desired configuration management (DCM) feature in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1. The configuration packs help you monitor the implementation of your security baseline for the 2007 Office system SP1 applications.
