How to Distribute a Virtual Application Package Using a Task Sequence

Applies To: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

You can use the Install Software task sequence step to distribute virtual application packages that have been imported into Configuration Manager 2007. All target computers must have the Microsoft Application Virtualization Desktop Client installed to run virtual application packages. You can add a task sequence step to install the Microsoft Application Virtualization Desktop Client as part of the task sequence. Distributing multiple virtual application packages using a task sequence is not supported.

For more information about installing software using task sequences, see How to Install Software Packages as Part of a Task Sequence.

noteNote
The information in this topic applies only to Configuration Manager 2007 R2 and Configuration Manager 2007 R3.

To distribute virtual application packages using a task sequence

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Operating System Deployment/ Task Sequences.

  2. Create a new task sequence, or edit an existing task sequence. If necessary, add the Install Software task sequence step. For more information about editing an existing task sequence, see How to Edit an Existing Task Sequence.

  3. To specify the virtual application package you want to distribute to Configuration Manager 2007 clients, select Install a single application.

  4. To specify the virtual application package you want to install with the task sequence, click Browse and then select the virtual application package from the list of available packages.

    noteNote
You cannot specify an associated program with a virtual application package. After you select a virtual application package, the associated program line will not be available. All required programs are contained in the virtual application package.

  5. To save the task sequence, click OK.

  6. Advertise the task sequence to Configuration Manager 2007 clients. For more information about how to advertise a task sequence, see How to Advertise Task Sequences.
