1. On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Windows Mobile 6 SDK, point to Standalone Emulator Images, point to US English, and then choose WM 6.1 Professional or WM 6.1 Standard.

2. Wait for Windows Mobile 6.1 to start on the Device Emulator.

   

3. When the default page appears (the Today screen for Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional or the Home screen on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard), choose File, and then choose Configure.

4. In the Emulator Properties dialog box, on the Network tab, select the Enable NE2000 PCMCIA network adapter and bind to check box.

   

5. Choose Connected Network Card from the drop-down list. The emulator automatically selects the physical network to use.

6. Click OK to close the dialog box.

If you open this dialog box again, the drop-down list displays the actual network that the emulator is using. For example, the emulator might use the Virtual Machine Network Services Driver.

For cellular connections such as GPRS and CDMA, this process also includes configuring the Cellular Emulator so that the Device Emulator uses a data connection over the physical network adapter to simulate a cellular signal.

To simulate a cellular signal such as GPRS or CDMA, follow these procedures to configure the Cellular Emulator.

 To find the COM Port value of the Cellular Emulator

1. On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Windows Mobile 6 SDK, point to Tools, and then choose Cellular Emulator.

2. In Cellular Emulator, make note of the COM port value in the lower left corner.

3. Click the Close box to close the Cellular Emulator.

   

In the following step, you will set the COM port in the Device Emulator to be the same as it is in the Cellular Emulator.

 To set the COM Port value in the Device Emulator

1. On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Windows Mobile 6 SDK, point to Standalone Emulator Images, point to US English, and then choose WM 6.1 Professional, or WM 6.1 Standard.

2. Wait for Windows Mobile 6.1 to start on the Device Emulator.

3. When the default page appears (the Today screen on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional or the Home screen on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard), choose File, and then choose Configure.

4. In the Emulator Properties dialog box, on the Peripherals tab, from the Serial port 0 drop-down list, select the COM port value that you noted from Step 2 in the previous process.

   If the COM port value is not available in the drop-down list, then type the COM port value in the Serial port 0 box.

5. Choose OK.

6. Choose File, point to Reset, and then choose Soft.

7. In the Device Emulator dialog box, choose Yes to confirm the soft reset.
