Unassign a Client Access License

Use the following procedures to unassign a client access license (CAL) from a user account or a device.

Note

You must use an account that is in the Domain Admins group to perform this procedure.

To remove a CAL from a user account

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Essential Business Server, and then click Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console.

  2. Click the Licenses tab, and then click User Licenses.

  3. Click a user account that has a CAL assigned.

    Note

    You can see the CAL that is assigned in the Edition column. You may find it necessary to scroll horizontally in the user account list to see this column.

  4. In the tasks pane, click Manage CAL.

  5. In the Manage CAL dialog box, click None, and then click OK.

Note

You must use an account that is in the Domain Admins group to perform this procedure.

To remove a CAL from a device

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Essential Business Server, and then click Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console.

  2. Click the Licenses tab, and then click Device Licenses.

  3. Click a client computer or other device that has a CAL assigned.

    Note

    You can see the CAL that is assigned in the Edition column. You may find it necessary to scroll horizontally in the device list to see this column.

  4. In the tasks pane, click Manage CAL.

  5. In the Manage CAL dialog box, click None, and then click OK.
