Chapter Summary

  • Prior to installing Exchange Server 2007, it is necessary to extend the Active Directory schema and prepare each domain where Exchange objects will be hosted.
  • When the root domain is prepared, security groups will be created that can be used to assign administrators varying levels of permissions. These include the Exchange organization administrators, Exchange recipient administrators, and the Exchange view-only administrators.
  • If introducing Exchange 2007 into an existing environment, it is necessary to prepare legacy exchange permissions. It also may be necessary to disable link state.
  • Exchange Server 2007 requires a 64-bit operating system and hardware. Several specific software components must be installed prior to performing the installation of Exchange.
  • The Exchange Best Practices Analyzer can be used to locate problems that may cause an Exchange Server 2007 deployment to fail.
