Troubleshoot queue jobs in getting queued status
When you are managing the project queue in Microsoft Office Project Server 2007, a job may sit in the "getting queued" state for a prolonged period of time. When a job is in this state, it means that the queue has been told to start receiving a job that will be processed later, but it has not received a tag telling it that all the data for the job has been received. Until the full job has been received, the job will remain in the getting queued state.
If a job remains in the getting queued state for a prolonged period of time, it is likely that something is preventing the job from finishing. In many cases, reconnecting the client that was executing the job will allow the job to finish. For example, a user might have been saving a project to Project Server through Project Professional, but the client session to the server ended before the save job could be completed. This can occur if you are saving a large project with a lot of custom data and you close Project Professional before the save has finished. (In other words, the "Save" status on the status bar at the bottom of the window did not reach one hundred percent.) When this occurs, the "save" job will sit in the queue in a getting queued state. Reconnecting the user to Project Server should allow the job to finish and will change the status to Success.
If a job still fails to finish, you should look through the ULS logs to investigate why the job remains in the getting queued state.
Another solution to this situation is to cancel the job that has failed to finish. However, you should only cancel jobs in the getting queued state as a last resort. It is important to note that to cancel a job in this state, the Cancel jobs getting enqueued option must be enabled.
Enable the "Cancel jobs getting enqueued" option
On the Project Web Access Server Setting page, in the Queue section, click Manage Queue.
On the Manage Queue Jobs page, expand Advanced Options.
In the Advanced Options section, click Cancel jobs getting enqueued.
Cancel a job in the queue
On the Manage Queue Jobs page, in the Jobs Grid, select the check box next to the job or jobs that you want to cancel.
On the Jobs Grid toolbar, click Cancel Jobs.
