(Optional) Add a New Exchange Mailbox Server

As your environment grows you may find it necessary to expand your capacity by adding a new Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 mailbox server. These are the steps you can take to add a new server after your initial Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration version 4.0 deployment has been running for a while.

 1. Install and Configure the New Exchange Server, EXMBX03
 2. Create Offline Address Book (OAB) LifeTime Registry Keys for EXMBX03
 3. Configure a Storage Group and Database on EXMBX03
 4. Add the Mailbox Database on EXMBX03 to Resource Manager
 5. Add the MOMActionAccts Group to the Administrators Group on EXMBX03
 6. Install the Microsoft Office Manager (MOM) Agent onto EXMBX03

Install and Configure the New Exchange Server, EXMBX03

First you must install the new Exchange server. The procedures for this will vary depending on your needs for fault tolerance. Refer to the topics in the Exchange Server 2007 documentation for Installing Cluster Continuous Replication or How to Perform a Typical Installation Using Exchange Server 2007 Setup for detailed steps. Once you have Exchange Server 2007 installed, continue with the following procedure.

Create Offline Address Book (OAB) LifeTime Registry Keys for EXMBX03

The new server must have OAB LifeTime registry keys created on it.

Procedure DWHE.122: To create OAB LifeTime registry keys for EXMBX03

 1. On MPS01, open a command prompt and navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Hosting\Provisioning\Samples\Deployment Automation Namespace.
 2. On the command line, type enter the following:
provtest CreateOABLifeTimeRegistryKey.xml /x2

 3. You should see EXMBX03 as one of the servers identified by Microsoft Provisioning System (MPS) as a mailbox server in the output of the provtest command.

Configure a Storage Group and Database on EXMBX03

You need to create a new storage group and database on EXMB03.

Procedure DWHE.123: To configure a storage group and database on EXMBX03

 1. On EXMBX03, open the Exchange Management Shell.
 2. Run the following command to create a new Storage Group:
new-StorageGroup -Server 'EXMBX03' -Name 'BusinessSG2' -LogFolderPath '<Unique Log Folder Path>' -SystemFolderPath '<Unique System Folder Path'

 3. Run the following series of commands to create and mount a new Mailbox Database:
new-mailboxdatabase -StorageGroup 'CN=BusinessSG2,CN=InformationStore,CN=EXMBX03,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Fabrikam,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=fabrikam,DC=com' -Name 'BusinessMailstore2' -EdbFilePath '<Unique Database Filename with Path>'
``FakePre-13a3745a5219484eaf8a0d6703a800bd-7b29e0312b06400da40eb91061dadac3

Add the Mailbox Database on EXMBX03 to Resource Manager

Use the AddExchangeResources Sample XML to add the Exchange database you created to the Exchange Server 2007 Resource Manager.

Procedure DWHE.124: To add the mailbox database on EXMBX03 to Resource Manager

 1. On MPS01, edit <installdir>:\Program Files\Microsoft Hosting\Provisioning\Samples\Exchange 2007 Resource Manager\AddExchangeResources.xml
 2. Edit the <preferredDomainController> element to match the name of the preferred Active Directory domain controller; for example:
<preferredDomainController>ad01.fabrikam.com</preferredDomainController>

 3. Edit the <serverName> and <mailStoreName> values to add the BusinessMailstore2 on EXMBX03. Make sure other mailstores and servers that you have already added to Resource Management have been removed.
 4. Save the edited file.
 5. From a command prompt, change to the <installdir>:\Program Files\Microsoft Hosting\Provisioning\Samples\Exchange 2007 Resource Manager directory and execute the following command:
provtest AddExchangeResources.xml /x2

Add the MOMActionAccts Group to the Administrators Group on EXMBX03

In order to install the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) agent on EXMBX03, you need to add the MOMActionAccts group as a member of the Administrators group on EXMBX03.
