Prepare the ADS Server

The Automated Deployment Services (ADS) server is the server on which you will run all of the ADS services, including the Controller service.

You install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 on the server before you install ADS and configure the Controller and other ADS services. For reference purposes, the ADS server is named ADSC01. However, you may wish to use another naming scheme for your environment.

Procedure SPP.1: To prepare the ADS (ADSC01) server

  1. Perform a default installation of Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise Edition, by using the CD boot or by floppy boot method. Install the Support Tools from the Windows Server 2003 CD.
  2. Apply any released updates to Windows Server 2003 by using Microsoft Update.
  3. Set the Application, Security, and System event logs to 20 megabytes (MB) and configure them to overwrite as needed.
  4. Enable only an internal-facing or private interface that will be on the same Ethernet segment as the private interface of your front-end servers.
