Supporting mobile devices in Windows SBS 2008

Applies To: Windows SBS 2008

Windows SBS 2008 enables mobile device connectivity during installation. No additional configuration is required to ensure that mobile devices can synchronize with the server. All users are enabled by default to access the server and to synchronize their mobile devices.

Important

Devices that are running the Windows MobileĀ® 5 software are supported. Devices that are running Windows Mobile 2003 or earlier are no longer supported because of known security issues.

When a client computer joins the domain, the mobile device configuration tool, the configuration file, and the public self-signed certificate are deployed to the client computer. The user connects their mobile device to a client computer and configures the device by using the mobile device configuration tool. No services actually run on the client computer. After a mobile device is properly configured, the user can connect to Windows SBS 2008 to synchronize their e-mail and other data.
